The "Hippie" Fashion
The introduction of the hippie fashion was something different for the decade
of the sixties. It portrayed a youth who wanted freedom of personality, and they
pushed their way towards it. They protested for the 'equality of all' and against
social evils. The fashion consisted of men having hair long like women, youth
putting flowers in their hair, and wearing colourful and baggy clothing. The trend
also included youth wearing colourful and braided bands around their heads. This
new fashion reflected the freedom they were begging for which older generations
did not appreciate. Their freedom of appearance showed their thoughts which
weren't to focus on what others thought of them.

Television
A typical Friday night in the sixties may have consisted of watching television, as it was
still fairly new. They would watch their favourtite family shoes on the sofa with a large
bowl of popcorn. The 60's popcorn was different to now, it was cooked on the stove in
a large kettle, shaken and as it popped or later they would have Jiffy pop popcorn. If a
family ordered pizza, they had to pick it up because ther was no pizza delivery then.
Disney on Sunday nights was also popular in the sixties, with shows such as "Swamp Fox",
"Zorro" and "Davy Crockett".

The "Beatles"
The Beatles were a well- known English band in the sixties who were commercially
successful because of their amazing music. The band was made up of four young
men who were John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr.
The Beatles music genre was mainly pop. They were able to teach people
that pop music was not just shallow and contemporary entertainment, however,
was a genre with soul and meaning. They allowed this to be shown by the lyrics
of their songs that were written and with the production of each.
